You won the KNB Scholarship 2026. Now comes the visa and stay permit part. KNB covers all visa fees. You pay nothing. This is the full step-by-step process for every country. Follow it exactly so you arrive on time in August or September 2026.
What Visa You Need
- First you get a student visa (called VITAS or Visa Index 316) to enter Indonesia.
- After arrival you change it to KITAS (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas) – limited stay permit for students.
- KITAS lasts for your study duration (up to 4 years for Bachelor 2 years for Master 3 years for PhD) with extensions.
- KNB pays all fees for VITAS KITAS and extensions.
Step-by-Step Process (Start Right After Results)
Receive Your Official Award Letter
- KNB sends it via email or portal (around 19 June 2026 or later phases).
- This letter is the most important document. Keep it safe.
Get the Visa Recommendation from KNB Office
- KNB team (knb@kemdiktisaintek.go.id) sends you a Visa Recommendation Letter or Telex Visa.
- This is sent to your Indonesian embassy or directly to immigration.
- Wait 1–2 weeks after results. Email them if you do not get it by late June.
Apply for Student Visa (VITAS) at Indonesian Embassy in Your Country
- Go to your nearest Indonesian Embassy or Consulate (same one where you got recommendation letter).
- Documents needed (bring originals + copies):
- Official KNB Award Letter
- Passport (valid at least 18 months from arrival date)
- Visa application form (download from embassy site)
- 2–4 passport photos (4×6 cm red background)
- Return flight ticket booking (KNB pays actual ticket later)
- Proof of accommodation (KNB provides during orientation)
- Health certificate (sometimes asked)
- Fee: Free for KNB winners (show award letter).
- Processing time: 5–14 days. Apply early July 2026.
- Visa stamp in passport: Single entry student visa (VITAS 316).
Book Your Flight
- KNB sends flight details or reimburses economy class return ticket.
- Arrive in Jakarta between 24–31 August 2026 (exact dates from KNB).
- Airport pickup is free – KNB team waits at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
Arrive in Indonesia & Get KITAS
- First 1–2 weeks: Orientation in Jakarta (all winners together).
- During orientation:
- Open Bank BNI account (stipend goes here)
- Medical check (free)
- Submit documents for KITAS
- Documents for KITAS (KNB helps collect):
- Award letter
- VITAS visa
- Passport
- University acceptance letter
- Photos
- Sponsor letter from KNB
- KNB submits your KITAS application to immigration office.
- KITAS card arrives in 2–4 weeks (you get temporary stay proof first).
- Fee: Fully paid by KNB.

Extensions Every Year
- KITAS renews each year.
- Your university international office handles it.
- You need good attendance and grades.

- For Pakistan India Bangladesh Nigeria etc: Use the same embassy where you got recommendation letter.
- Visa on Arrival (VoA) not allowed for KNB – must get student visa first.
- If from visa-free country (some ASEAN): Still need student visa for long stay.
- No family allowed on scholarship (no dependent visa).
Common Problems & Fixes
- Delay in recommendation letter → Email knb@kemdiktisaintek.go.id with your name and award number.
- Passport expires soon → Renew before visa application.
- Lost award letter → Request duplicate from KNB portal or email.
- KITAS delayed after arrival → University gives temporary paper – you can stay legally.
